About us

It's Pronounced "tuh-MAY-tuh"

Welcome to Tamayta, a unique and vibrant part of Lincoln’s College View neighborhood. We’re not just a spice shop — we’re a destination for flavor, craftsmanship, and community.

At Tamayta, you’ll find a stunning array of bulk spices, each hand-blended, toasted, and ground on-site to ensure maximum freshness and flavor. Our “flavor wall” is a sensory experience, offering everything from everyday essentials to bold, unexpected blends. Customers can purchase as little or as much of any spice or blend as they’d like — even down to a Tablespoon.

But that’s only part of our story.

We’re also home to a professional knife sharpening service. Using precision tools and expert technique, we breathe new life into your cutlery, making them sharper, safer, and more effective.

The passion behind Tamayta comes from Mat Myers, a longtime Lincoln resident with a multifaceted background. A lover of cooking, a trained blade sharpener, a licensed locksmith, and a former inventory control manager, Mat’s experience is as varied as the spice blends he creates. His culinary journey began as a teen working in restaurants, where he developed his love for food and learned the craft of knife sharpening.

Mat’s mission extends beyond business. Through his work with the Nebraska Restaurant Association’s Pro Start Program, he taught high school students knife skills and culinary techniques. It’s all part of his broader goal to support the community and inspire the next generation of chefs.

The name "Tamayta" was inspired by Mat’s son Quentin, who playfully suggested it as a twist on the word "tomato." With the support of his wife, Jody, and their three kids, Tamayta is a family-driven venture focused on bringing quality products and services to the College View community.

Since opening in December 2017, Tamayta has become a beloved part of the local retail landscape. Our unique blend of products and services has caught the attention of Lincoln’s food lovers, home chefs, and professional cooks alike. As part of the thriving College View neighborhood, we’re proud to stand alongside other local businesses that contribute to the area’s dynamic atmosphere.

Come visit Tamayta and experience the difference for yourself. Whether you're looking to stock your spice rack, sharpen your favorite chef’s knife, or just explore new flavors, we’re here to offer an experience as bold and flavorful as our blends.
